ever say something stupid?

I've been meeting with a young couple who will be married this weekend for some pre-marital counseling. It's been a real joy to get to know them a little better and to learn a little more about their relationship. They are rather young but I believe ready for marriage because in their youth there is a sense of innocence about them. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of the baggage seen in couples who are a little older and a little more worldly wise.

I ran into the mother of the bride this evening and mentioned how sweet a daughter she had. That was fine and I should have stopped at that. But no… I had to add the comment that she (the bride) was SO young. "I can't get over how young they are" I said. And then made the brilliant observation, "You know, I think that they will do just fine because they are so naive." Yukk! What I meant was that they were so "innocent", but instead I used the word "naive". What a stupid thing to say to the mother of the bride! I wish I would have just said, "Hi" and left it at that.
