Its Just So Slow

Okay, I know it is possible because hundreds of others have done it and continue to do it even now. The "it" to which I refer is long distance running at my age. I'm 51 and have never run before. Now I'm not talking about ultra marathon running but I WOULD like to run a marathon soon and plan to run a half next month. But building the stamina takes such a long time. Its just so slow.

The problem for me has not been so much the stamina as I've been following a good training schedule. The problem for the last two weeks has been injuries. A strained calf muscle kind of put things on hold along with some nerve issues in my foot. I purchased a better quality shoe (i.e. more expensive) to replace my $20 Target shoe only to discover it (the new shoe)actually irritated the nerves in my foot even more. I'm sure my wind will have diminished some.

The delays have been driving me crazy and has caused me concern that I will not be properly prepared for the half.

Its not really an issue but that is what has been on my mind lately so I thought I'd post it. After all, this IS just a thought or two.
